The last deer hunting trip of the season my father took me and my brother to Brown's Hunting Camp in Swainsboro, Georgia. Our hunt started on January 8th 2009 and was a 3 day hunt. We took a total of 5 deer, 2 bucs and 3 does in total. We brought home a good amount of venison for the freezer with 9 deer this season in total. We are good until next season for sure. This hunt camp wasn't as big as the one we went to in Dec., but we saw a good amount of deer. Below you will find photos of the deer we took and the hunting areas as well. I was also able to take some videos of deer which you will also find below. Overall we had a great time and I can't thank my dad enough for the memories we made during the trip. It was a blast!

I have a friend with some land that is having some wild bore problems. So like a good friend, I told him I would help. He sent me 2 photos of the perpetrators to help identify the problem. Below you will find those 2 photos. I like to call it exhibit 1 & 2. So on the evening of December 21st, I took a scouting trip out to see what I could find. I only had about an hour of daylight left so I had no expectations. I saw 6 big hogs. All were to far away, but counting the baby, I saw a total of 25 hogs that evening alone. I realized my friend has a bigger problem than he may even know. I know what a bad problem this is to have. I could take a pig a month for the next year and still not help him with his problem. As I was leaving the property that evening, a hog walked out right in front of me so I took him. You will find the pictures below.

On December 9th of 2009 my Dad and I made a trip to the Alabama River Lodge for a 3 day hunt to see if we couldn't put some venison in the freezer this year. Below you will see pictures of the lodge where we stayed and slept. The morning hunts were from 5:00am - 10:30am and the evening hunts started at 2pm until dark (7:30ish pm). The first hunt was at night on December 10th. It had been raining most of the day and was still raining as I started my hunt. I was placed at a food plot in a ground level shooting house. If you click on the videos below, you can see the view from my position. I did see a few deer that night, but they were to far away. I did finally see 3 deer that weren't more than 35 yards away from me, but they were eyeing me the whole time and as soon as I moved they were gone. That was the last time on this trip that I would be in a shooting house that was at ground level.

On December 11th the morning hunt started before sunrise and to say it was raining would be putting it lightly. By the time I reached my shooting house, I was soaked from head to toe. I was freezing and pretty miserable for most of the morning until the sun came out and started to warm me up. I saw one doe, but once again it was too far away. The bad weather the last two days kept the deer hunkered down. Not good for hunting, but the rain was supposed to stop today and if we were lucky we might catch a break on this evening's hunt.

For the evening hunt, I went to the same place I was at in the morning. I really liked the shooting lanes and with the break in the weather I thought the deer might start moving around. About an hour before sundown, I saw 3 does at the end of the right side of the field and I estimated were 200 yards away. Out of the 3 does, 2 were too small and the other one would show me her back side as she ate. I waited for her to turn to the side for about 25 minute all the while having her in my scope. Finally the other 2 does left and I was beginning to think I would never get a clean shot at her when she finally turned to her right giving me a clean shot and I took her. After I walked it off it was about a 230 yard shot give or take 10 yards. Below you will find some pictures and videos from that evening's hunt.

On December 12th I went back to the same shooting house as the night before hoping now to see a buck. This morning was the coolest yet in the high 30s. This would be better weather for us than the past few days. Maybe our luck was changing. I only saw a few small deer this morning and decided that I wanted to try a different area for the evening hunt. At this time in the hunt, my father had yet to see anything decent to shoot at.

For the evening hunt, my father and I want to try something different so our guide took us to a location where they haven't been hunting much. This area had swamps and some thicker woods and terrain that we were hoping was holding some nicer deer. On this evening hunt, I shot a big doe and so did my father. I also have some video of the deer still in the field after I shot my doe. I could have shot 2 or 3. My father had the same story as I did about the deer still hanging around after the one was shot. It was a pretty good hunt. We both got a deer this evening. Below you will find video and pictures from the hunt.

The morning of December the 13th was our 6th and final hunt. We went back to the same areas in hopes of seeing a buck on our last hunt. This morning was pretty cool and a spooky fog set in as the sun rose. It was really cool and you find some pictures below. I didn't see any deer this morning. It was the only hunt on the trip that I didn't. However, I did hear a shot earlier in the morning from the direction my father was hunting so I was very optimistic that he got a deer, hopefully a buck. When we picked up my father it was another nice doe. Those pictures are below.

Overall it was not a bad trip. We shot 4 deer total and dropped each one where they stood. We are going to have a good amount of deer for the freezer. If the weather would have cooperated more, we may have done better. This area has a ton of deer. I would love to go back next year and try again. On a 5 star scale with 5 being best, I would give the Alabama River Lodge 4 stars.
