The Blackshirts earn their second shutout of the year defeating Iowa State 28 to 0. Isaiah Fluellen, a wide receiver, was the leading rusher for the Cornhuskers and quarterback Joe Daily played for 2 and a half quarters in the victory.

Yes its true, WR Isaiah Fluellen was the leading rusher for the Cornhuskers gaining 78 yards on 5 carries. Barney Cotton pulled out his bag of tricks half way through the first quarter calling a receiver reverse for Fluellen. Fluellen showed great speed and vision as he ran for a 39-yard touchdown. All 78 of Fluellen's rushing yards came on reverses and end arounds. Do you think Cotton is trying to send Texas a message for next week? If Texas over pursues the run next week, look for them to get burned for a long run by Fluellen.

QB Joe Daily saw the majority of time at quarterback on Saturday after QB Jammal Lord tweaked his knee and established a 28-point lead. The coaching staff thought it best to rest Lord and get Daily some valuable game experience. Daily was the team's second leading rusher with 65 yards on 15 carries. He completed 2 of 4 attempted passes for 16 yards and threw 1 interception. Daily's performance was average at best and he didn't look as comfortable out there as times past. He was unable to lead the offense on any scoring drives. He still did give you a glimpse of things to come with his running ability. He's a wiry type of runner with excellent balance. On several plays when you thought he was down, he was able to keep his feet and get more yards. He still needs to make better decisions when he's running and making cuts and following blocks. This should improve with experience. Daily had a few opportunities to run for first downs as he was rolling out on pass plays and decided to run a second or two late. His decision making should also improve with experience.

Jammal Lord rushed for 46 yards on 15 carries and scored one touchdown. He also completed 2 of 3 attempts passing, throwing no interceptions. IB Josh Davis rushed for 22 yards on 10 carries and scored 1 touchdown. IB Cory Ross saw significant time rushing for 56 yard on 9 carries.

The Blackshirts recorded their second shutout this year. LB Barrett Ruud and RE Trevor Johnson led the team in tackles each with 12. LB Demorrio Williams had 9 tackles and was a man possessed on special teams blocking one punt and almost getting to several others. FS Josh Bullocks came within inches of collecting his 8th interception of the season just landing out of bounds. He will have to wait and try for number 8 against the Longhorns. Josh also showed up big on special teams blocking one punt and recovering another blocked punt returning it 26 yards for a touchdown. CB Kellen Huston and LB J. T. Hollowell each had an interception.

Next weekend I will be reporting from Austin, Texas as the Huskers take on the Longhorns. This will be a big road test for the Huskers and should be a great game. My prediction is Nebraska 28 and Texas 24 in overtime.
