Huskers fight back from a 21 point deficit only to lose late to Texas Tech 34 to 31.
Wow! What a well played game by both teams. Now, how many of you were sitting on your couch in the second quarter when Texas Tech went up by 21 points thinking to yourself here we go again. The thought of last year's beating by Texas Tech started to creep into my head. But what my eyes saw for the next two and a half quarters was something I can't ever remember seeing from my beloved Husker team. Not only did the Huskers come back from that deficit, but they had the lead and a chance to win the game.

QB Zac Taylor started the game off a little shaky, but played well for the rest of the game. Taylor completed 21 of 35 passes for 229 yards and a pair of touchdowns and interceptions. This is the second good performance in a row Taylor has had against a formidable foe. Watch for Taylor to continue to improve as the season continues.

RB Cory Ross wasn't as big of a weapon for the Huskers as he had been for the first four games. Some nagging injuries reduced the number of carries Ross received this weekend rushing for 68 yards on only 15 carries. RB Cody Glenn helped shoulder the rest of the load rushing for 39 yards on 12 carries and scoring 2 touchdowns.

WR Terrence Nunn was the standout for the receiving corps catching 3 passes for 39 yards including 2 touchdown passes. Eight different receivers caught passes for the Huskers. Bill Callahan and the offensive staff have done a good job spreading the ball around this year and this game was no different.

The Blackshirts gave up points early, but made adjustments in the second half holding Tech to 2 field goals after back to back turnovers by the offense deep in the Huskers' territory. The defense helped keep the Huskers in the game late and also had an opportunity to win the game. SS Daniel Bullocks led the team in tackles with 12 and the Blackshirts recorded 4 more sacks bringing this year's total to 30.

I like the progress the Huskers have been making with the offense. Callahan has been playing a lot of players, which not only will improve our depth but I believe our recruiting efforts also. After this week's performance, we should start to receive some commitments and we have. Look for things to only get better as the Huskers gain a better command of the west coast offense.

This week the Huskers will go on the road to play the Baylor Bears. Look for the Huskers to build on last week's performance and handle the Bears in a closely contested game early. The Huskers win going away 38 to 20.
