The Huskers traveled to Waco, Texas to take on the Baylor Bears in the first road test of the year. The Baylor Bears brought an impressive 4 - 1 record to the game with a quality win over Iowa State 23 - 3 and an overtime loss to Texas A&M accounting for their only loss. The Huskers are coming to Waco after losing a close game to Texas Tech and are looking to improve their record with a road win.
The Baylor Bears drove the ball down the field on their first possession eating up nearly 8 minutes of the first quarter. The drive ended with a 5 yard scramble for a touchdown by Baylor QB Shawn Bell. After the first drive, the Blackshirts made their adjustment and shut down the Baylor offense. For the game Baylor only was able to rush for 51 yards and 202 yards passing total. The Blackshirts recorded 3 more turnovers, 2 interceptions and 1 fumble recovery. They also added 4 more sacks bringing this year's total to 34. FS Blake Tiedtke led the team in tackles with 8.
The Huskers' offense turned in another solid performance defeating the Bears 23 - 14. QB Zac Taylor completed 18 of 32 passing for 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. Zac continued to become more comfortable with the offense, spreading the ball around to 7 different receivers. WR Terrence Nunn led the Huskers in receptions with 5 for 49 yards and 1 touchdown. WR Todd Peterson scored the Huskers' other touchdown on a 21 yard reception from Zac Taylor. RB Cory Ross had another solid performance leading the team in rushing yards with 95.
The Huskers (5-1) are on the road again this week as they travel to Columbia, Missouri to take on the Tigers (4-2). The Tigers are coming off a tough overtime victory last week over Iowa State. The Tiger faithful will be loud and show up in force to support their team. The Huskers win a close one 24 to 20.
