Callahan quickly burned Harrison Beck's redshirt and the Huskers end up winning the game. Was it worth it?
The Huskers played the Kansas State Wildcats this weekend in what most would say was the Huskers' best chance to become Bowl eligible. In a closely contested game, the Huskers edged out the Wildcats 27 to 25 in one of the most up and down games I have seen in years. This game had everything: fumbles, interceptions, blocked kicks, safeties, plays under review and just when it looked like one team was going to take control, something happened.

For any true Husker fan once in your lifetime you must make the pilgrimage to Mecca and go to Lincoln and see the Huskers play in Memorial Stadium. That's what I did this weekend and let me tell you, in case you were wondering, it was everything a fan would hope for and more! To start, the people are so friendly. We truly have the best fans in college football. The history and getting to see all the trophies the Huskers have collected over the years to include the 3 Championships from the 90s was very impressive. My favorite was the Heisman Room devoted to the three trophies. If you get the chance to go, I highly recommend it.

This game had everything. To start the veterans in the crowd were honored for Veteran's Day. Standing next to my Dad, both of us having served in the Army, it made for a nice memory. It was senior day for the Huskers and I got to see RB Cory Ross play his last game as a Husker at home. Ross rushed for 69 yards on 28 carries and scored one touchdown. The player of the game had to be WR Nate Swift who had another strong showing catching 7 passes for 109 yards and 2 touchdowns including a 21 yard catch on the final drive putting the Huskers in position for the winning field goal. True freshman kicker Jordan Congdon also came up big hitting the winning 40 yard with 1:05 left in the game to give the Huskers the victory.

Coach Callahan is sure to catch some heat this week with some of the decisions he made during the game. Let's start with the first questionable call lining Ross up 7 yards deep in the end zone with the ball on the one yard line. By the time QB Zac Taylor handed Ross the ball four yards deep in the end zone the Wildcats defense smothered Ross for a safety. With Ross being that deep in the end zone, he had little chance to make the play. We would have been better off handing it to the fullback. He would have at least had a chance to get the ball out. Later in the game faced with the same situation, Callahan called a play that had Taylor throw a swing pass to Ross 4 yards deep in the end zone. The Wildcats weren't fooled and nailed Ross again in the end zone for a safety. Why would you call a play that completes a pass in the end zone? It will take me some time to figure this one out. Late in the game Taylor was injured and knocked out of the game. Callahan quickly burned Harrison Beck's redshirt and the Huskers ended up winning the game. Was it worth it? Taylor will be starting in the Huskers' final game against Colorado.

The Huskers are Bowl eligible now after their 6th win of the season. The two Bowls that may come calling are the Champs Sports Bowl or the EV1.net Houston Bowl.
